Most probably the price of used cars in New Zealand will be rise as new regulation on import of Japanese used cars come into the effect, in which only 7 years old or newer cars are allowed to import in New Zealand. Used cars older than 7 years of age are prohibited to import in Kiwi. The Government of New Zealand change to law to bring newer cars on country’s roads, as now most second hand cars in the country are older. Approximately 81,000 used vehicles were imported into New Zealand in a single year of 2011, and largest number of used cars were imported from Japan.
Similar to other countries, the used car industry in New Zealand is about ten times bigger than the new Japanese car. The move of changing the regulation by the government was imposed because old cars possibly damaged the environment exhaust more CO2 which is harmful to human health. The Government wants to put similar measures as of Japan in the country, as Japan changed the automobile emission law most strict in the world in the year 2005 on all Japanese new cars built on or after this year.
